Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries

The Divers Alert Network (DAN) Oxygen First Aid For Scuba Diving Injuries course is designed to train and educate the general diving public in the techniques of using oxygen as first aid for a suspected dive injury. In addition, this course will introduce novice divers to the fundamentals of recognizing diving injury warning signs, response, and management. This program also provides an excellent opportunity for experienced divers and instructors to continue their education.

Skill Performance Objectives: To successfully complete the DAN Oxygen Provider course, participants must demonstrate skill and confidence during deployment, assembly and disassembly of all parts of the DAN Oxygen Unit (or other acceptable units), and pass a written exam.

Oxygen First Aid For Aquatic Emergencies

This Divers Alert Network (DAN) course trains non-divers and professional rescuers (such as lifeguards) to recognize near-drowning / submersion incidents and other aquatic medical emergencies and to provide basic life support including the use of oxygen first aid.

Skill Performance Objectives: To successfully complete this DAN Oxygen Provider course, participants must demonstrate skill and confidence during deployment, assembly and disassembly of all parts of the DAN Oxygen Unit (or other acceptable units), and pass a written exam.

First Aid For Hazardous Marine Life Injuries

The Divers Alert Network (DAN) First Aid For Hazardous Marine Life Injuries course is designed to train and educate the general diving public and interested non-divers in the first aid techniques for a suspected hazardous marine life injury. In addition, this course will introduce divers to the identification of potentially hazardous marine life and how to avoid hazardous marine life injuries. This program also provides an excellent opportunity for experienced divers and instructors to continue their education.

Skill Performance Objectives: To successfully complete the DAN First Aid for Hazardous Marine Life Injuries course, participants must demonstrate skill and confidence providing first aid to injured divers who have simulated hazardous marine life injuries and pass a written exam.

Advanced Oxygen First Aid For SCUBA Diving Injuries

The Divers Alert Network (DAN) Advanced Oxygen First Aid For Scuba Diving Injuries course is designed to train existing DAN Oxygen Providers to use the MTV-100 or a Bag Valve Mask while providing care for a non-breathing injured diver.

Skill Performance Objectives: To successfully complete the DAN Advanced Oxygen Provider course, participants must demonstrate skill and confidence in the use of both, a manually triggered ventilator and bag valve, as well as pass a written exam.

Automated External Defibrillators (AED) For SCUBA Diving Injuries

The Divers Alert Network (DAN) Automated External Defibrillators for Scuba Diving course teaches divers and other interested parties to provide care for sudden cardiac arrest including the use of an automated external defibrillator (AEDs). Since more than 10 percent of all dive fatalities are actually caused by cardiovascular disease, according to DAN dive accident and fatality statistics, this is a very important course.

Skill Performance Objectives: To successfully complete the DAN Automated External Defibrillators for Scuba Diving course, participants must demonstrate skill and confidence in the use of an automated external defibrillator in a simulated aquatic environment and pass a written exam.

Basic Life Support For SCUBA Diving Professionals

The remote nature of dive accidents, whether a few hours from shore or days from civilization, frequently requires more advanced levels of care than are offered by traditional or entry-level CPR programs. The Divers Alert Network (DAN) Basic Life Support for Dive Professionals teaches the dive professional and interested non-professional, intermediate level care. This course also contains AED use and pediatric CPR. A Huge value and a lot of great information!

Skill Performance Objectives: To successfully complete the DAN Basic Life Support for Dive Professionals course, participants must demonstrate skill and confidence in the use of an automated external defibrillator in a simulated aquatic environment, demonstrate confidence in providing basic life support to an injured adult, child, and infant, utilize advanced level skill in providing rescue breathing and pass a written exam.

Remote Emergency Medical Oxygen (REMO2)

The DAN Remote Emergency Medical Oxygen (REMO2™) system module supplements the DAN Oxygen First Aid in Scuba Diving Injuries course. Based on medical closed-circuit oxygen rebreather technology, the REMO2™ device provides injured divers with high concentrations of emergency oxygen for extended periods. The Divers Alert Network (DAN) Remote Emergency Medical Oxygen (REMO2™) instructs the Oxygen Provider in the use of DAN's new REMO2™ system.

Skill Performance Objectives: To successfully complete the DAN Remote Emergency Medical Oxygen (REMO2™) course, participants must successfully assemble and deploy the DAN REMO2 unit and pass a written exam.

The Divers Alert Network (DAN) Diving First Aid for Professional Divers course represents training specifically designed for divers who dive as part of their job duties. It is not appropriate or designed for recreational divers. Students for this course must have an affiliation with an aquarium, commercial diving company or scientific diving operation.

Dive Accident First Aid for Non-Diver

This Divers Alert Network (DAN) program is designed for non-divers and teaches them how to recognize the warning signs of decompression illness and help provide care for a diver involved in a dive emergency.

DEMP, Diving Emergency Management Provider Course

DES, Diving Emergency Specialist

To achieve the level of Diving Emergency Specialist (DES), a diver must:

  1. Be at least a rescue-level diver with their training agency
  2. Hold a current CPR and First Aid Certification
  3. Hold a current certification in Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries (or equivalent)
  4. Complete three (3) of the following:
    • Advanced Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries (or equivalent)
    • First Aid for Hazardous Marine Life Injuries (or equivalent)
    • AEDs for Scuba Diving (or equivalent)
    • On-Site Neurological Assessment for Divers (or equivalent)
